Happy Birthday, Queer Mental Health!

Wow, I can’t believe a whole year has passed already since I created Queer Mental Health. Thanks to the hard work by all our writers, this website has grown into a strong website with high-quality content. Did you know we’re getting hits from all over the world, even from countries where homosexuality and transsexuality are illegal and punishable by death? I hope this website has given at least a little bit of hope to people in these nations. We’ve accomplished a lot of strong outreach in our first year, and I hope to see this site grow even more in the next year. Speaking of outreach, I’ve had a few people emailing me to say our suicide prevention resources page helped them to “keep calm and carry on,” as it were.

So far Queer Mental Health has focused on living with mental illness. While we need to continue to be a strong resource for those battling with mental illness, I also want to see Queer Mental Health expand to cover everyday mental health issues that affect everyone in the LGBTQ community. Issues like bullying, body image, and coming out need to be covered as well. Also, our current writer’s team is dominated by queer and transgender women – let’s see some more gay men join our team as well!

Everyone can help Queer Mental Health continue to grow. Joining our writer’s team is the most effective way you can help out, but our readers can help a lot too. If you’re on Facebook, you can Like our Page, or follow us on Twitter and retweet or share our posts. Not one for social networks? No problem. We have a growing reader’s community participating in discussions following each article. Why not drop a comment or two if you find something useful or interesting? If you operate a website of your own, feel free to link to our website.

Once more, I want to thank all the members of the Queer Mental Health Writers Team for your contributions to this website. Queer Mental Health would not have grown to what it is today without your support, hard work and quality writing.

I look forward to birthday #2!
