Transgender Day of Remembrance, 2015

Another year has gone, and sadly, so have way too many people. Transgender Day of Rememberance is the day where we remember those who have lost their lives to transphobic hatred. Please take a moment to remember them, and to recognize that the vast majority of these victims were women of colour.

Transgender Day Of Rememberance, 2013

Trigger Warning: Transphobia, Murder, Hate, Suicide

This is the time of year I dread. I wish we lived in a world where we didn’t need a day like the Transgender Day of Remembrance, but we do. And the numbers are staggering, growing each year. Not because more trans people are being murdered now than ever before (though that may also be the case), but because more victims are being recognized and identified as transgender, and more of these crimes are being reported and recognized as crimes.

Transgender Day of Remembrance, 2012

Today is the day we remember all the trans people murdered in the last year. This year there are 61 names. This is the highest number of any year to date. I want to take a moment of silence to remember these people.

My Partner With Borderline Personality Disorder (Hanners)

It is my pleasure to introduce the newest series, “My Partner With…” to QueerMentalHealth.org. Relationships can be a challenge for anyone, though they can be especially difficult when they are impacted by mental health issues. It is my hope that we can help others understand how to approach a partner’s mental health concerns. I’m starting this series off by talking about the issues that come up for myself and my partner, who has Borderline Personality Disorder.

If you were to get all your information about Borderline Personality Disorder by going to online support groups for partners of people with this condition, you would learn the following:

  • Borderlines are always abusive
  • Borderlines are always in denial
  • Borderlines never take responsibility for their actions
  • Borderlines will love you one minute, and hate you the next
  • Relationships with borderlines are notoriously unstable

Remembering Jamie Hubley

Another day, another LGBTQ youth suicide. I am sad to report that 15-year old Jamie Hubley, from Kanata, Ontario, Canada ended his life on Saturday, overwhelmed by loneliness and homophobic bullying. On his Tumblr, he expressed his pain and depression for months. In his final post, he said the following: Its just too hard. I […]
